Rise of the fallen – Part 1: Bucky x Reader (x Steve)

During WWII – at the Modern Marvels Pavilion, 1943

Big, bright lights burst apart above your head. The sky was filled with different colors, while you stared up, amazed by the beautiful sparkles. You had always liked firework, but now, here on the Modern Marvels Pavilion, the world exposition of tomorrow, it had a special feeling. As if anything was possible.

‘I can’t believe you are going to England tomorrow,’ you friend Alice said, while you walked down the stairs into the large, futuristic building. ‘Your mother must be so proud. Your dad also served in the 107th infantry, right?’

You nodded. ‘She is proud, yes. But she’d rather have me work in one of the hospitals here, for safety.’

‘You’ll do great! I’m actually kind of jealous. All the handsome guys are leaving to fight abroad. You get to nurse sexy soldiers back to health. They are going to love you!’

‘Don’t be ridiculous. I’m not joining the army to have fun. It’s not some dance party, Alice. It’s war,’ you said seriously, waking towards the booth of Stark Industries where a show was about to start.

‘Oh, don’t take everything so hard, [Name]. It’s your last night out. Let’s just have some fun, find some guys and go dancing!’

She took you by the hand and wriggled the both of you through the people to get to the front. While she pushed the both of you further to the front the show already started.

‘He is so handsome!’ Alice cried out.

You shook your head. Howard Stark was handsome, she was right about that, but men like that usually had more than one woman they shared a bed with. You didn’t want to judge, but you were looking for something entirely different in a man.

As you were looking at the show, Alice was still moving forward, sometimes getting nasty glares from people she bumped into. When you were almost to the front she made you bump into what you thought was a kid. He dropped his bag with nuts, they shattered all over the floor.

‘Oh, gosh,’ you said, letting go of Alice’s hand and lowering yourself to the ground to pick the bag from the ground, salvaging all the nuts that were still in the bag. ‘I’m really sorry. Let me buy you a new one.’

‘It’s okay, ma’am,’ the man that you thought was a boy said. ‘I didn’t like them anyway.’

You smiled, looking at the little, skinny, young man. He looked a little sad, but he seemed friendly.

‘You sure? I mean, I would be happy to.’

‘No, I bought them to share, but she doesn’t seem to want any.’ He pointed to the blond girl in front of him.

You laughed. ‘She seems more interested in mister Stark.’

The man nodded. ‘Who would blame her.’

‘I’m [Name], by the way,’ you said.

‘Steve, nice to meet you.’

You shook hands, smiling.

‘Holy cow,’ the soldier standing in front of you said.

The both of you turned back to the podium again and saw the car that had been standing on the podium was flying.

‘How about that,’ you laughed. ‘He actually made something that works.’

From the corner of your eyes you saw Steve smile at your words. When the car fell back to the podium, he turned to you again. ‘Or not…’

‘Doesn’t matter,’ you said. ‘I wouldn’t be able to afford it anyway.’

You heard Alice call you name from somewhere in the crowd.

‘Friend of yours?’ Steve asked you, pointing at Alice as she was waving and jumping up and down next to two tall men in soldier uniforms.

You sighed. ‘Yeah… I’d better be going before she hurts herself. Have a great night, Steve. It was nice meeting you.’

‘Likewise,’ he replied, looking a bit disappointed that you were leaving.

When you walked up to Alice, the soldier that had been standing in front of you, bumped into you.

‘I’m sorry, ma’am. Are you alright?’

You shoulder hurt, but you laughed it off, looking into his blue eyes. ‘I… I’m fine,’ you mumbled. You walked past him, but turned around to wish him luck in the war. He was still looking at you, smiling. ‘Be careful out there, soldier!’ you yelled.

He put his hand to his head and saluted you. The girl next to him hit him softly on the shoulder, breaking your eye contact. You turned around again, smiling. You bite your lip thinking about his blue eyes.

‘There you are!’ Alice cried out. ‘I thought I had lost you for a second. This are John and Paul. They  are also going away to England tomorrow.’

The men looked surprised at those words. ‘You are accepted to the army?’ John said suprised, turning to you.

You were used to men reacting that way. They always assumed that you were a fragile little thing. They usually found out the hard way that you weren’t. Your father had always wanted a son, but when your parents couldn’t have children anymore after you were born, he treated you like the son he never had. You knew how to fight like a man, but you didn’t join the army to be one. You joined so that you could help as a woman, as a nurse.

‘Don’t worry. I promise I’ll be gentle if you fall wounded.’

‘Oh,’ both John and Paul laughed. ‘You’re just a nurse?’

Alice shook her head, telling you – no begging you – to not say anything about it. You didn’t want to let her down. This was the last night you would have with her in a long time. You swallowed hard, trying to get rid of the anger that was boiling inside of you.

You nodded. ‘Yeah, I’m just a nurse,’ you replied, heavily accenting the just. ‘Only joining so I can save your sorry asses,’ you mumbled softly, so that they wouldn’t hear.

You followed them to the club where supposedly was a dance party. You didn’t feel like going with John and Paul. You thought they were narrow-minded, but Alice nearly begged you to come. You pretended to have fun, occasionally dancing with Paul, while Alice was getting closer and closer with John. After an hour Paul had found himself a new dance partner and you happily seated yourself with all the other girls that were waiting for a guy to ask her…

‘Care to dance?’

You looked up from playing with the ruffles of your skirt, meeting the blue eyes of the soldier you met before. You smiled. ‘I don’t dance.’

‘So the twirling and moving around the dance floor with that guy over there, that’s not dancing?’

You shook your head, still smiling.

‘A shame,’ he said, getting the hat from his head. ‘You see, it’s my last night in America and before I go, I would really like to dance with you.’

‘Is that so?’

‘It is… Now will you do me the honor?’ He offered you his hand and smiled at you.

You hesitated. You really wanted to take his hand and dance with him all night, but your head told you it wasn’t wise. When you looked into his eyes you knew for certain it wasn’t wise. You liked him. Even from the short period of time that you had seen him, you liked him. You didn’t want to fall in love with someone you wouldn’t see for God knows how long, or maybe never again. Where you were going nothing was certain. Not even your own life.

You sighed. ‘I’m sorry. I’d love to, but I think it’s better if we don’t.’

He nodded, disappointed. ‘Because I’m leaving tomorrow?’

Now it was your turn to nod.

‘So if I would ask you to go dancing when I’m back, you would say yes?’

You smiled, nodding again. He bowed in front of you, putting his hat back on.

‘Until another time then, ma’am.’

‘Be safe,’ you said again.

He winked at you. ‘Don’t worry. The Nazi’s won’t kill me. The time waiting for us to meet again might though.’

Your cheeks turned red as you watched him walk away onto the dance floor. A part of you wanted that you had taken his hand and had gone dancing with him, but deep down you knew that would have only broken your heart. You smiled thinking about the date you had planned with him for when he was back, for when the both of you were back.  And who knew, maybe you would even see him again at the front…

TO BE CONTINUED...
Hee everyone!

So, yeah... I'm in the Bucky mood? Anyway, I thought I write something that also plays part in WWII. Steve also plays a part, although smaller than Bucky.

It will probably be 50/50 WWII and present. I've already written most of it, so you will see the end of it soon! I don't think it will not be more than 5 parts, with an extended ending to leave an opening to continue if you really like it!

I hope you like it! If you do: please comment, fave or watch. Would mean a lot to me and I will always thank you for it!
