You were leaning on the desk in front of you, ready to tear every single hair from your head. You took in a deep breath. You felt like the solution was right in front of you. You just couldn’t see it.
Several minutes went by in which you contemplated everything you knew and everything you didn’t. Tony silently walked into the room, putting a plate of food and a glass of water next to you.
‘Come on,’ he whispered, ‘you need to eat.’
He took a seat beside you and took a sip of whatever was in his glass (probably not water).
‘I can eat later,’ you responded, shoving the plate of food away and pushing yourself from your seat. You walked through the lab, pacing back in forward, your arms crossed, trying to put the pieces together.
‘You won’t be much good to Steve if you’re starved, [Name]. At least drink something,’ Tony said, looking at you worriedly and pointing at your glass of water.
Drink, you thought, swallowing hard. ‘Friday, pull up the security footage of the bar again.’
‘Right away, miss [Last Name],’ Tony’s AI responded, showing the footage of the party on the screen behind you.
You turned around, watching what had happened again together with Tony.
‘What do you expect to see?’ he frowned, taking a large bite of the sandwich in front of him. ‘We watched this already.’
‘That right there…’ you mumbled slowly, telling Friday to stop the footage.
You looked at the mysterious man pouring something not only in Steve’s glass, but also in yours.
‘I don’t understand,’ Tony stated, turning from the screen to you. ‘HYDRA poisoned Steve. We know that.’
‘Tony, look…’ you said, asking Friday to zoom in on the still frame and pointing at the man’s hands.
The footage slowly played again, showing the HYDRA agent moving his hand from one glass to another, almost unnoticeable.
‘Wait…’ mumbled. ‘Play that again.’ He pushed himself from his seat and joined you in front of the screen. ‘But that’s impossible. You saw what it did to Steve’s cells. You should also be… Unless…’
You nodded, swallowing hard. Hope gloomed in Tony’s eyes and he quickly walked away from you, towards one of the cabinets in the back. He soon returned with a syringe and took a blood sample. You pressed your hand against the tiny wound and followed Tony as he prepared your blood to put under a microscope. You both stepped back to look at the screen. There was nothing weird to be seen and you felt your heart beat violently in your chest.
‘Well, how about that…’ Tony whispered.
You sighed relieved, a smile curling your lips. You had just found the solution to your problem.
You were immune.
You quickly took a seat behind the desk, taking a closer look at your blood sample through the microscope. If you could isolate your white blood cells and extract the antibodies for the drug, you could make a cure for it.
You turned to Tony, summing up all the equipment you needed. Without a word he started to collect everything and placed them around you, silently watching you work your ‘magic’ and making the formula that would save Steve’s life.
You worked for several hours in a row, finally taking up Tony’s advice to eat and drink. He helped you as much as he could, but this was your area of expertise and you couldn’t afford to make any mistakes.
You had never been so focused on your work before. Tony asked you questions while you were carefully dissecting your cells, but you ignored all of them, keeping all of your attention on the task at hand. You knew you didn’t have much time left.
The clock told you it was way past midnight again when you were finally done. You exclaimed a shaky sigh and closed your eyes, feeling the nerves raging through your body. You put the transparent serum in one of the syringes next to you and walked over to Tony, who was spinning in his chair.
‘And?’ Tony asked, as you were both standing before the microscope, the possible cure in your hands. ‘What do we do now?’
‘Now we test it…’ you swallowed hard, wiping the sweat from your brow and adding your newly found cure to Steve’s infected blood.
You took a step back, joining Tony in the center of the lab to look at the screen. You could feel him reach for your hand and for a few short moments you stood there together, hand in hand, both holding your breath.
You had been confident that this was going to work, but as you stared at the blood cells in front of you, you started to doubt yourself. The drug was probably specially designed for Steve and the man had poured it in both your drinks to make sure Steve drank it. You felt the tears sting in your eyes and started to lose hope again.
That was until your formula slowly started working, attaching itself to Steve’s damaged cells and helping them fight off whatever it was that was in that drug. You finally dared to breath again as Tony took you into his arms and pressed you against him in a tight hug.
‘You did it,’ he whispered. ‘I told you, you would!’
You nodded, feeling the tears stream down your face. It felt weird standing in Tony’s arms like this (you had never shared more than a handshake before), but at the same time it felt so good to be held. You gave in to his hug, letting your hands rest on his back and laying your head on his chest.
‘It’s all going to be okay, kid,’ Tony continued almost fatherly. ‘Now, let’s get this cure to Steve before it’s too late.’
You nodded, pushing yourself from Tony’s embrace and getting the full syringe of serum from the desk. Together you made your way towards Steve’s old bedroom, hearing his ragged breathing from across the hall. You rushed to the door, swallowing hard, seeing his fragile body lying under the covers of the bed.
You could see his bones sticking out from underneath the covers and you bit your lips, trying not to cry. You walked up to him, letting your hand slip into his. You squeezed it slightly, feeling the cold sweat stick to your fingers.
‘Hi…’ Steve whispered, turning his head towards you.
His skin was an even paler grey than before and his lips almost seemed blue. You smiled at him shortly as Tony also walked into the room and took his position on the other side of the bed.
‘Stark,’ Steve coughed. ‘Have you come to say your goodbyes?’
Tony shook his head at Steve’s words. ‘She did it,’ he said, laying his hand on Steve’s small shoulder. ‘You’re not going to die, Cap. Not today.’
Steve looked at Tony shortly, but quickly turned to you again. ‘I knew she would…’
You looked deep into his eyes and felt all the feelings you had been feeling for so long rage through your body. You didn’t care if he would ever become Captain America again. As long as he was alive.
You showed Steve the syringe and smiled sadly again. ‘I don’t know if it will bring back your powers, but it should stop the cell deterioration.’
Steve nodded and sighed almost desperately. ‘Right now I’m willing to try almost anything…’
You wiped the hair from his face and pressed a kiss on his forehead, before rolling up his sleeve. You searched for the right vein and told Tony to hold Steve’s hand.
‘This might hurt,’ you mumbled to Steve, laying one hand on his upper arm and placing the other with the syringe on the inner side of his elbow.
Tony let Steve take his hand, although you could see by the way his lips curled into an almost unnoticeable smile, he’d be talking about this later when Steve would be himself again.
‘Okay, on three. One, two…’
Before it was three you put the syringe into Steve’s stiff skin and emptied it in his bloodstream. Steve groaned loudly, squeezing Tony’s hand, but otherwise remained silent. When it was all over he turned his head towards you and looked at you gratefully. He still breathed heavily and you could see his heart beating violently in his chest, but the smile that crept onto his face told you everything was going to be just fine.
You sat by his bed while the serum was trying to fight off the drug. You didn’t know yet if it was powerful enough, but until you did, you were staying in Steve’s room.
Tony had left soon after Steve had let go of his hand. He came to check up on you several times and each time said he thought Steve looked a lot better. You could also see the color slowly returning to his face and after several hours he even had the energy to sit upright in his bed again. The serum had worked.
You had saved Steve.
You hadn’t slept in over two days and you felt your eyelids getting heavy as Steve started asking about what you should do with the man that had caused all of this. He wouldn’t be able to go after him himself, but you couldn’t let someone like that run around the world free. He could easily try to kill the other Avengers as well, including you.
‘[Name], are you okay?’ Steve suddenly asked, seeing you almost falling asleep every few minutes. ‘You should really get some sleep. You’ve done enough for me.’
‘But what if you deteriorate again?’ you objected, rubbing the sleep from your eyes. ‘No, I’m not leaving you alone.’
Steve sighed. ‘Fine, then sleep here,’ he said, a cheeky smile curling his lips.
He opened the covers and gestured you, you should get into bed with him. You chuckled, hearing the ‘old’ Steve in his voice again. You nodded at his words and slowly climbed into the bed. Steve lowered himself and took you into his arms. You laid your head on his chest, feeling his rapid heartbeat echo in your head.
‘I love you, [Name],’ he whispered, pressing a kiss on your hair. ‘Thank you.’
You smiled, lifting up your head again. ‘I love you too, Captain.’
Steve laughed softly, looking into your eyes. He tried to hide it, but you could hear the sadness in his voice. ‘You know I might never carry that shield again…’
You nodded. ‘I know. Are you okay with that?’
‘Surprisingly… Yes. With you, I don’t care who I am.’
He wiped the hair from your face and slowly leaned forward until your lips touched. You closed your eyes, feeling a shiver go down your spine. Steve pressed you tightly against him and you could feel him smile against your lips.
‘Now you can go to sleep,’ he chuckled, giving you one last kiss and letting you lay your head back on his chest.
You shook your head, taking in a deep breath, liking the warmth of Steve’s body. He softly stroked your back and you fell asleep to the melodic sound of his heartbeat and breathing.
He might not be as muscular as he was before, but he was still Steve.
Your Steve.

Super Soldier Syndrome (BuckyxReaderxSteve) Part 3
"Poor little Bucky ain't scared now, is he?" chuckled Steve, making fun of the way that Bucky constantly gulped and looked at his assigned chair and barber.
"You better go sit down before your barber loses her patience. You never want to make a barber lose their patience," you teased, slightly pushing him towards his seat.
"Remember that haircut you earned when you zoned out after you first drafted?" Steve laughed, just as Bucky sat down.
"Damn it, I was so close to forgetting about that! Sometimes you make me wish I stayed as the Winter Soldier," Bucky glared at Steve, his face slo

Steve shot up in bed, his skin soaked in sweat and his breathing ragged, the distant ring of gunshots still filling his head. He shoved a hand through his hair and put his elbows on his knees before letting his head fall into his hands. He pressed his palms to his eyes, trying to stop the onslaught of memories that assaulted his brain, but the stubborn nightmares lingered.
Wood splintered as bullets whizzed past his head, hitting the trees and stirring dust from the ground, momentarily blinding him, but he kept running. He could hear their shouts at his side, replied with broken commands of his own, and he could see his face at his side, sme

The right partner (Steve x Reader) - Final Part
When you woke up again late at night the bed was cold and empty. You slowly pushed yourself up, rubbing the sleep from your eyes. It was completely dark inside the room, but you didn't need your sight to know something was wrong. Steve was gone.
You felt your heart beat violently in your chest and your stomach turned as your mind started racing, coming up with all kind of terrible scenarios. You quickly got out of Steve's bed and made your way to the door. You called out for him softly, hoping he was in the bathroom or watching TV in the small living room next door.
There was no sound whatsoever.
You walked out onto the hallway, seeing the moonlight illuminate your way to the kitchen. You didn't dare to breath as you looked down, seeing little drops of blood lead your way down the hall.
'Oh, no...' you whispered as you started running and tried to keep yourself from crying.
You had done all you could, even enhancing the cure with some of the components of doctor Erskine's original seru
