Seeker of Truth - Chapter 15: Agent Lewis
After talking with Tony for a while about your progress, your powers and even a bit about Pepper, you thought it was time to go home. You would have liked to train some more with Steve, but he had already left. You had thought about finding Clint, but then you remembered he had gone after Natasha to join her in her mission. As you were walking into the great hall, towards the exit, Fury came walking towards you.
‘Come with me, [Name],’ he said, gesturing you should follow him.
You sighed, looking at the beautiful weather outside. You had already pictured yourself on your balcony with a glass of cold, white wine and your feet up in the air. That was not going to happen now.
You followed him back towards the training rooms. You were glad you had not changed yet. He leaded you to the gun range, all the way to the back of the long hallway with several doors leading to different kinds of training rooms. In front of the range a tall, dark-haired guy was leaning against the wall. He smiled as you walked up to him.
‘[Name], this is agent Lewis, one of our British agents and the best gunman we have.’
‘No need for formality with beautiful women, sir,’ the guy said with a British accent. He then turned to you. ‘You may call me Ethan.’ He winked at you, causing your cheeks to turn red.
As you had a better look at him you realized he was rather handsome. His brown eyes sparkled as he smiled and his unshaved chin gave him a more masculine look.
‘Well…’ Fury said. ‘Once agent subtle over here is done flirting he is going to teach you how to use a gun. If Natasha were here I would have let her teach you the basics, but because she will be away for an extra couple of days, agent Lewis is going to work with you.’
You nodded, not really sure what to say. You didn’t like guns. You hadn’t figured out if it was because you had been recently shot or just because you didn’t have a good aim. You decided to just keep quiet and let the training be over with as fast as possible.
‘I’ll leave you two alone for now,’ Fury said, turning to you. ‘I suggest you take this training seriously and make the most out of the time you have with agent Lewis. You will be going on a mission soon.’
He walked away, leaving you alone with Ethan, who was already entering the gun range and gathering the equipment. As you stood in the hallway for a few seconds, watching Fury walk away, you thought about what he had said. You would be going on a mission, soon. You wondered what kind of mission it would be and who you would be accompanying. You thought about that for a few more seconds and then followed Ethan into the gun range.
‘So,’ he said, looking at you. ‘Have you held a gun before?’
‘I have, but guns and I don’t work well together.’
Ethan smiled, shaking his head. ‘You should just practice more. I’m sure you’ll do fine once you get the hang of it.’ He used the exact same words as Steve. It freaked you out a bit, but you guessed they were both right. Before you joined the Avengers you had never even seen a gun before, let alone hold one.
‘If you say so,’ you smiled.
‘Let’s just start then. First of all, we’ll need to find you the gun, or guns, that suit you best. I know you have been training with agent Romanoff. You kind of have the same posture, so maybe we should go for the smaller guns first. I myself am more a fan of the bigger guns, but all in time.’
He smiled at you, sending a shiver down your spine. There was something in the way he smiled. You didn’t know if you liked it yet, but it definitely did something to you.
He handed you one of the smaller guns and some sort of headphones to filter out the noises from the gunshots. The gun weighted heavily in your hand, even though it probably was the lightest one there was.
‘How does it feel?’ he asked, as he watched you weigh the gun in your hand.
‘Heavy… Like I’m not supposed to be holding it.’
‘That’s how it always feels when you don’t know how to handle one. Here let me show you.’
He put his arms around yours. You felt his breathing in your neck. He put the gun in both your hands and pointed it at the dummy that was hanging on the other side of the room. He lay your finger on the trigger and removed the safety pin.
‘Okay,’ he said. ‘Now fire.’
You did what he asked you, missing the dummy by a few inches. You sighed. You were never going to be a good shot.
‘It’s okay,’ he said. ‘Just keep your hands up a bit more. I always try to keep the gun on eye level, but not higher than my shoulders. You should control the gun. Not the other way around.’
He let go of your arms, as you took the position he had just explained. You fired again, now hitting the dummy in the shoulder. You smiled, looking back at Ethan who stood behind you with his arms crossed. A tiny smile curled his lips.
That day you practiced until your arms felt like they were about to fall off. Ethan touched you more than you were used to with Steve, but you didn’t really mind. You started to like the way he carefully lay his hands over yours. At the end of the day you were pretty much able to hit the dummy in any place you wanted. It however still was a dummy hanging still. When on a mission your enemies would probably not stand still for you to shoot them.
Ethan promised you that the next day you would start training with more dummies and that he would maybe even turn on the machine that made dummies pop up on different places. Even though you still didn’t like the weight of the gun in your hands, you started to feel more and more confident with it.
You even caught yourself looking forward to the next day. You didn’t know if it was because you were getting better with a gun or because you were going to see Ethan again. As you walked through the hallway, towards the great hall ready to go home, you thought about Steve and if he would be jealous if you started training with Ethan more. A small smile covered your lips as you made your way out of S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters. Life was starting to get good.

After recovering from the massive avalanche of emotions they'd all just experienced, it was finally time for them to be able to think rationally, again. Bruce had been the original party pooper, mentioning that when Winnie came to, she was most likely going to panic.
Being raised by aliens her entire life (allegedly, and much to the distaste of her actual parents), he pointed

That was the only word to describe it. Horrifying numbers of aliens suddenly burst from the sky, sending anything and everything flying. They were huge; Grayish purple, beady eyes hidden behind intimidating helmets, and guns that would vaporize anything they touched. Miniature wormholes opened up the second the “bullets” made contact with something.
And that’s what the Avengers were dealing with, that afternoon.
Steve and (Name) were already on top of the mess, minutes before the rest of the team showed up. New York City was busy, which made their job twice as hard. But it was hardly the a
